AUDITION NOTICE
Gros Morne Theatre Festival casting call for Indigenous Peoples who are actors and performers, in partnership with Poverty Cove Theatre Company. 

TNL is hosting an open audition call for Indigenous Peoples who are actors and performers for our upcoming production of Building Houses by Megan Gail Coles at the 2026 Gros Morne Theatre Festival. Indigenous Peoples or persons of mixed Indigenous ancestry residing in NL will be given priority, however individuals outside of NL will also be considered.  

About Building Houses

Building Houses takes place on an island in the Strait of Belle Isle and in a plantation house in St. John’s. Newfoundland is currently a British Colony maintaining undefined treaty rights with the French along the north coast where residents are labeled squatters by the crown. It is mid summer 1828 and an Indigenous guide named John has been tasked with searching for Beothuk on The Great Northern Peninsula. Shanawdithit lives in town with a European explorer while on the island Suzanna Willians has been sent to her grandmother for assistance.  

Character list: 

John: 28, Indigenous guide tasked with searching the Great Northern Peninsula for Beothuk. 

Suzanna: 14, granddaughter sent to her grandmother for assistance. 

Hosanna: 46, Indigenous widow living on an island in the Strait of Belle Isle. 

Shanawdithit: 27, captured Beothuk woman held captive in settler homes.  

About the Gros Morne Theatre Festival: 

The Gros Morne Theatre Festival is a repertoire theatre festival located in Cow Head NL, the northernmost enclave community in Gros Morne National Park. The festival operates out of the Nurse Myra Bennett Centre for the Performing Arts, a new state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2021. TNL provides artists with staff accommodations for the duration of their employment and a round trip of travel from their point of origin. TNL works under CAEA’s Dance Opera Theatre Policy as a tier 1 engager.  

Audition Details: 

Participants will be asked to share a monologue they have prepared and read a side from the play. If you are not available for the date specified below, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
