An imbalance in the logging industry brings Albert and Simeon into harshness and hardship as the St. John’s business elite attempt to quash organized labour movements and exploit resources in this 1938 Northern Newfoundland historical drama.  Written by the Great Northern Peninsula’s own award-winning Megan Gail Coles, Falling Trees is the first installment of the Driftwood Trilogy, co-produced by Theatre Newfoundland Labrador and Poverty Cove Theatre Company.  Brought to the stage by an all-star cast and crew, this recollection of coercion and perseverance rings true for countless Newfoundlanders and Labradorians and the people they love.   

About the Driftwood Trilogy: 

Experience centuries of history on Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula in The Driftwood Trilogy. Megan Gail Coles, the critically acclaimed author of Small Game Hunting at the Local Coward Gun Club and writer of TNL’s hit 2024 production of Our Eliza, is coming home to the Great Northern Peninsula for an epic creative undertaking.   

The Driftwood Trilogy will feature THREE NEW PLAYS presented over the next THREE YEARS at the Gros Morne Theatre Festival. Follow one family through several generations and 200 years of history on the Great Nothern Peninsula.  Each play stands firmly on its own, but when combined, audiences will witness the history of Newfoundland and Labrador through the lives of a Great Northern Peninsula family.
