Simpler. Harder. Better. Worse.
Though born on the island, Rhonda Payne grew up elsewhere and wanted to reconnect with her home. In the late 1970s she travelled up and down the Great Northern Peninsula talking to women she met about their lives. These conversations were turned into a play that had a lasting impact on Newfoundland and Labrador theatre.
Stars in the Sky Morning follows five women who navigate limited life choices as they grow up on the Great Northern Peninsula. Dolls are a grand luxury. Brides are 15. Pies are auctioned. Doctors take days to reach. But everything seems to be changing… very quickly.
Glimpse into a time when there was no time, only the “stars in the sky morning, until stars in the sky evening.” And experience a canonical piece of Newfoundland and Labrador theatre in the region that inspired its creation.
